'Sunset Memorial', 1994

ABOUT 'Sunset Memorial' ...

With only 10 days slated to create the entire book Morgan assembled a small cast of 23 models, many his personal friends, and a talented crew with famed stylist Timothy Reukauf as production manager and Amanda Butterbaugh as location manager.

The experience was exhilarating and exhaustive. The small band of cast and crew tirelessly produced imagery from sunrise to sunset for 10 days. In the late afternoon of the final day they had wrapped the crew had gathered back at the production house completely somewhat numb.

Thanking everyone for their remarkable work and the rich experience they'd had together, Morgan gazed at a bouquet of lilies on the dining room table and suddenly asked, 'Does everyone here have something black to wear? I just thought of one final picture I must take. It won't take long, I think we can get it before the sun sets. I'll get the camera, meet me at the beach when you're ready.'

'Amanda bring those lillies with you.'

When the crew arrived he was already sitting on the sand near the surf. 'Alright everyone. Just stand over there and hold one another and look out to the sea.' The shadows were long, the beach was empty, they held each other and all knew instinctively what this picture was truly about.

The moment after the shot was taken a photographer friend strolled by and said, 'David, you're never in your shots, let me take one of all of you.' A few weeks later Morgan received a framed shot of the color image (inset) shown here.

Each 8x10 fiber based archival exhibition print is created from the original negative by the photographer's master print artist. These are NOT ink-jet reproductions. Allow two weeks for delivery.
